Even the most novice candidate sometimes believe they can campaign without hiring professionals. A first time candidate told me a few weeks ago that he finds campaigning “intuitive.” That he did not need any help because he is a quick learner and just knows what to do.
If you want to win. Hire professional campaign consultants.
Many candidates choose to “hire” friends or family to run their campaign. I think this can be appropriate when running a small race where the potential staffers have some skills that can be useful. Or maybe even when an incumbent is running for re-election (and I have seen this be very successful).
I think not hiring professionals is a really bad idea when running a large scale campaign or a race that is competitive.
I watched a race a few years ago, and they lost purely because of inexperienced campaign workers. It is such a shame to see good candidates lose because of who they choose to help them.
There can still be places for friends and family members within a campaign, but when it comes to high profile positions, I think they should be filled with experienced campaign professionals.
I have an idea! Hire a professional consultant to oversee your inexperienced friends.
Political campaign management is not an easy task. It should not be left in the hands of people who may have good solid skills, but no experience with campaigning. Anyone can tell you how difficult it is to work on a campaign and putting the fate of your election in the hands of people who are learning as they go is not the way to win.
Isn’t winning the point of running?
So if winning is your goal make a solid decision and seek out professional help. Whether it is a local political consultant or a consultant from out of state it is not worth risking the success of your election.
Just listen to me and hire a professional for your political campaign. It will be money well spent.
